"The creation of paid public jobs is also among the social projects. This is an issue raised at my initiative, when unemployment slightly increased in our country. The reason was that the oil price fell by 4 times; we had to cut our investment expenditures. We could increase our currency reserves even at the most difficult for us times. However, we reduced the investment expenses, and thus, the people, who were supposed to participate in these projects, became jobless. Therefore, paid public jobs were created at my instruction," said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on February 3 at the conference dedicated to the results of the first year of the execution of "The State Program on the Social-Economic Development of regions of Azerbaijan Republic in 2019-2023".
The head of state spoke about the violations committed in this field: "However, unfortunately, violations have been committed in regions in this field, and the people, who have committed these violations, have been punished. If these shameful facts are repeated, nobody will be spared punishment, because to embezzle the money of the workplaces allocated for poor social groups is dishonesty. Therefore, there is very serious control. I am confident that such cases will not be repeated. Nevertheless, there must still be serious control. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population has been instructed to register all workplaces and tighten control. The situation on unemployment significantly improved last year, but the population also increases. We have to take it into consideration. For this reason, this year, nearly 40, 000 jobs will also be created by the state."
